DEVIL'S LAKE STATE  PARK
visitor brochure

OVERVIEW
Devil’s Lake State Park is one of Wisconsin’s most recognizable outdoor destinations. It is known for its dramatic quartzite bluffs, wooded trails, and expansive views overlooking the lake. For this brochure, I wanted to capture the texture of the outdoors to make it feel like you were already starting to explore the park.
THE GOAL
The main objective of this project was to create a useful and informational brochure while using a grid layout to showcase the adventures that await you at Devil's Lake State Park.
THE PROCESS
I began by researching current brochure designs and different artwork styles for inspiration on the layout and design. After my research, I wrote out the text I would be using in the brochure. I then began brainstorming how I could incorporate different art styles into the pages. I explored using natural textures with the background and images first, but it felt too generic. I then moved on to incorporating different visual styles, like making the image seem as if it were getting rained on and melting into the page or collaging different elements found in nature with the activities. I eventually landed on using geometric shapes with a mix of natural textures across the brochure. I  picked colors from the activity images and altered them to create a cohesive palette.  After that, I chose typefaces that would fit the overall feeling and began placing my text. I decided on my grid layout beforehand so all I had to do was experiment with text placement and design.
THE OUTCOME
The final result was a high-energy brochure that highlights the park's activities boldly and artistically. It's something that makes you want to grab your hiking shoes, find a trail, and see Devil’s Lake for yourself. That or a nice keepsake from your grand adventures.
